An OA Moment, Cat Meets Hummingbird
Let me tell you what I think is a special hummingbird story. Although I would never think of hummingbirds (or hummers for short) as ordinary because of their amazing abilities, there is a personal story about one in particularly and here it is:
After putting up my ordinary hummingbird feeder and waiting patiently for some activity, one of my calico cats was lazing near a window observing the outside. All of a sudden, here comes a female hummer drinking from the feeder. She notices the cat in the window and hovers right in front of her head, obviously fascinated by this strange, fairly colorful image and somehow knowing that she is in no danger. The cat’s tail is twitching back and forth real fast and she is making funny noises with her mouth. Then the hummer drinks from the feeder again, flying off for only a few minutes, back again, and goes through the same scenario over and over. The really curious thing is that when the cat finally decided to leave her perch, here came the hummer looking for her, even peering in the front door one time.
Amazing? Yes! Watching animals interact in nature is truly an Ordinarily Amazing gift. If only the human animals could remember the joy that is free for us to witness every day.
