An OA Business Man, Bubba
There are measures of man that by all accounts this man exceeds. He is successful by the common external business measures of wealth, successful business history and industry reputation. His bank account says he is successful, but if you met him on the street you would have no idea of his wealth. He prioritizes God, family, friends then business in his life. This is what makes him so Ordinarily Amazing to me. The way he interacts with others, his passion for business, his gratitude to those who work for him and his true authentic interest in others lives, all of these things make him unique. His energy changes an entire room. He hushes executives when they are interrupting employees from giving their opinion. It is so rare to find a successful businessman of his status who wants to hear opinions from every employee, including the receptionist, customer service reps, sales reps and every executive. He listens intently, looks you in the eye and thanks you for your time. He makes you feel important.
He opens Board meetings with a prayer. Nothing thrills him more than to see one of his companies succeed and share the wealth with every employee. He makes business decisions based on “doing the right thing”, not trying to get the upper hand. He is a beacon for all of us to believe that “nice guys win”, “business partnerships should be mutually beneficial” and “hire, retain and trust good employees to run your business”. He is refreshing in today’s business world of cutthroat competition and high employee turnover. He makes mistakes and owns them. He is an Ordinarily Amazing business mentor, friend and person. I am a better businesswoman, a more complete soul and a grateful friend for having his influence my life.
